ists / Peter Worthington

By PETER WORTHINGTON, TO Sun:
[...]

Combined, the Liberals and NDP have 114 seats, the Tories 143. So the balance of power is held by the Bloc (49 seats) whose prime purpose is to break up Canada. What can Dion, Jack Layton, and their aging mentors, Jean Chretien and Ed Broadbent, be thinking?

One would think Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae, one of whom will be the next Liberal leader, would put country ahead of subversion.

Back to Harper's sin of cancelling tax money going to political parties. Is there a reason why the Bloc should be financed by Canadians when its goal is to break up Canada?

MPs don't even have to swear allegiance to Canada when they take office. Rather they pledge loyalty to the Queen and her heirs. Does that make sense?

What a strange country we are: Financing a party that wants our demise as a nation, and pledging loyalty to a foreign monarch.

So far, the Opposition has shown more guts in demanding what they don't deserve, than Harper has shown in standing up for a valid principle, even though it was curious timing to wave the red flag of cutting off taxpayers' funding to political parties.

He ought to have known that personal greed motivates politicians.
Just to correct Worthington a bit here. Queen Elizabeth is a Canadian citizen and Queen of Canada. Worthington is well aware of this.
