The climate has changed

The climate has changed. Yes, hell has frozen over. An official public report has given us common sense and uncommon sensibility.

The Richard Moon Inquiry into Section 13 of the Human Rights Act and the regulation of hate speech on the Internet is balanced, informed and correct. It calls for the section to be repealed and suggests that speech should be freer not only on the Internet but in published material as well.

Be warned. Censors and lefties will pretend that this is all some right-wing plot. Nonsense! It's a moderate reaction to years of aggressive targeting of conservatives, Christians and others, with a handful of Nazi crazies caught up in the mess. People have been persecuted, prosecuted and bankrupted for speaking their minds on issues such as Islam, homosexuality and history.

One of the ironies of all this is that for decades now whenever responsible-minded people have objected to pornography or violence on prime time television they've been told by the liberal and chattering classes to "change the station, you don't have to watch."

Missing the point, of course, that this is not easily avoidable, fringe programming but mainstream broadcasting with multi-million dollar advertising budgets spent precisely on convincing you and your children to watch.

But when it comes to provocative or merely politically and socially unfashionable comments on blogs or small circulation magazines apparently our ability to not read them or to "change the station" suddenly is lost. In other words, it's yet another example of the crass hypocrisy of the leftist establishment and their fellow travelling friends in various special interest groups.

If the socialist-separatist AXIS takes over control of our democratically elected government HRCs will get bigger, stronger and more draconian. Canada's fate and your freedom and prosperity hang in the balance.
