A little knowledge better for the Canadian soul?

The idea that the less you know about Canada's history, the better you like it, must be a huge encouragement to the politically correct great and good now trying to redefine what Canada shall be in the future.

This week, the Association for Canadian Studies presented the chilling results of a study they had Leger Marketing do for them earlier this month. Handed the proposition, "I am proud of the history of Canada," people could agree or disagree, strongly or slightly. The result was 73 per cent of those with just elementary schooling -- presumably an older demographic that might not have finished Grade 12 due to a number of reasons -- strongly agreed. High school grads were less likely to agree strongly, at 60 per cent.

However, among those with advanced education, the percentage who were "proud" of their country's history dropped to less than half.

Implication? If you're proud of Canada's history, you might be a bit unsophisticated, ignorant even. Patriotism is therefore un-cool.
