Zimbabwe opposition wins parliamentary vote

Zimbabwe's main opposition party claimed victory in the country's presidential elections for the first time today, as official results showed that it had seized control of parliament.

Latest returns released this afternoon showed the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has won 105 seats to ZANU-PF's 93 in the 210-seat House of Assembly, with one seat going to an independent.

Even if Robert Mugabe's party won all the remaining seats it would not have a majority.
